Madam, – Limerick publicans are applying to court in a landmark case to be allowed to open on Good Friday to facilitate trade during a rugby match (Home News, March 16th). Their spokesman points out that the publicans are pursuing this course of action only because there had been no indication from the rugby authorities that they would change the match fixture date.
I find it incredible that this court application is being made for the first time in the history of the State because a sporting body will not move a fixture by one day. Is this what Ireland has come to in 2010? – Yours, etc,
