Sir, – It is time that Sinn Féin’s continued absence from Westminster was challenged. This policy, together with no Executive, means that the DUP is being given a disproportionate influence on the UK government as it makes Brexit decisions that will have an incalculable impact on Ireland. The only Remain voice in Westminster with the authority of being elected by the people of Northern Ireland is the valiant Lady Sylvia Hermon. Nine of the 12 members of the Northern Ireland Select Committee are Brexiteers, so no hope there either.
Adherence to abstention from the chamber while simultaneously having offices in Westminster may make ideological sense, but is irresponsible politics today. – Yours, etc,
