Madam, - Like many music directors and singers throughout the country I was delighted to read Michael Kelly's article on the mental benefits of choral singing (HEALTHplus, October 7th).

But the mental benefits are not only for adults. Choral singing improves children's focus and concentration for general studies. Through group singing children also gain great confidence and often make friends for life.

In addition, choirs often provide opportunities for travel. This weekend the boys and girls of Piccolo Lasso are travelling to London (grant-aided by Culture Ireland) to sing in Westminster Cathedral on Saturday at 6pm. This promises to be a healthy, confidence-building experience which they will remember for a lifetime. - Yours, etc,
