Madam, – How does one have their mortgage treated as impaired and written off as a bad loan? Expert advice would be much appreciated. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Pharmacies have stopped selling medicine due to a dispute with a Government body during a flu epidemic. Businesses are bankrupt because of 12 months of frozen credit. Construction companies are running to the courts for protection from billions in debt. Some 300 people are losing their jobs every day. I now fear there is no possible event that will lead TDs to see a need to cut short their holidays and return to the Dáil. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Dr Alan Barrett (August 6th) takes exception to my comments regarding his role in perpetuating the myth that public servants are paid more than people doing like work in the rest of our community. In doing so, he fails to address the central point of my article, (Opinion, August 4th), that the report of the second Benchmarking Body, which is the only exercise in recent years that conducted a like-for-like jobs and incomes comparison, debunked the mythology on this subject, to which Dr Barrett has, unfortunately, contributed by his public comments.
It is worth adding that this report undermined claims about public servants’ pay racing ahead despite using techniques that, in our view, actually over-valued public servants’ pay for comparison purposes. – Yours, etc,
