‘RTÉ Investigates’ programme

Sir, – Having just watched the RTÉ programme, I despair at what a miserable little country this is. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Much credit is due to RTÉ. In demonstrating the blindingly obvious for a minuscule fraction of the time and money a tribunal would require to do so, truly it has done the state some service. – Yours, etc,

BRIAN O’BRIEN,

Belgooly,

Co Cork.

Sir, – Fiach Kelly's report that Monaghan councillor Hugh McElvaney denied any wrongdoing and claimed he knew he was being set up and merely played along with RTÉ's undercover reporter, as otherwise there "would be no show", was insightful (Front Page, December 8th).

Isn’t it heart-warming to know that some of our local representatives care so much about RTÉ’s ratings and the possibility of current affairs programmes not actually making it to air, no doubt at licence-payers’ expense?

And to think that pantomime season is not even in full swing. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL CULLEN,

Sandycove,

Co Dublin.
