Sir, – So the only guilty persons are dead and the only culpable organisations no longer in existence (Home News, December 13th).
How convenient. David Cameron’s statement that: “Other organisations that are properly independent of government, such as the police and prosecuting authorities, will want to read the report closely and consider their responses” rings hollow when it was the very organisations that are supposedly independent of government that colluded in the murder of Pat Finucane and others. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – If Pat Finucane was murdered by agents of the British government, as suggested by the Desmond de Silva report, should not their political representatives be accountable for it, just as the present leadership of Sinn Féin is so held for the actions of the IRA by a considerable number of your correspondents? – Yours, etc,
Sir, – In light of the Pat Finucane report, is it not now time for the Stevens Inquiry to be released in full? State violence was instrumental in generating, and perpetuating, the conflict in Northern Ireland. The Government should demonstrate some overdue maturity and demand full and absolute disclosure from Westminster. – Yours, etc,
