Madam, – Now that Lansdowne Road has acquired a new name with a particular characteristic, will the redeveloped stadium be known colloquially as “the Palindrome”? – Yours, etc,
Madam, – How appropriate that the new Lansdowne is to be named the Aviva Stadium.
Aviva means “spring” in Hebrew. Thus, at a time of economic meltdown due to capitalist ineptitude, the IRFU’s new headquarters, located right in the middle of Dublin 4, just down the road from Seán Dunne’s proposed Eurofolly, will be named in honour of a man who is not only, of course,a former rugby international, but also a former leader of the Labour Party. A Spring stadium, indeed, for times when we need a swing to the left! – Yours, etc,
