Sir, - The outcry about the tax issue in the Budget was justified, but what about the people who would love to be in a position to pay tax - the disabled?
I am angry at how silent our TDs were on the miserable increase we, the long-term sick, got. Trying to exist on £73.50 a week, are we expected to be grateful for a rise of £4 when the Minister had so much to give away?
Do we, the sick, who have no money, will never have any savings, who have to depend on hand-outs and sadly have not the health to improve things, not mean as much to our public representatives as the taxpayers do?
Our men and women in Dail Eireann don't know what it is like to be disabled and poor. This Christmas Budget did nothing to cheer those of us who do. Maybe the Government should appoint a minister for poverty - or do we already have one called Charlie McCreevy? - Yours, etc., Breige Grant,
Burt, Co Donegal.
