Sir, – I would like to congratulate the Irish delegation on their recent participation in the Jubilee celebration pageant in London recently as described by Patrick Egan (May 21st). Far from being a failure, the sensitivity of the Irish authorities in not parading our wonderful horses at the event is to be greatly commended. Such a display would have only served as a painful reminder to her majesty of the abysmal failure of her own horse to win at Ascot last year, when it was so well fancied only to be so roundly trounced by horses from France and Ireland.

I imagine also the Irish dancing girls were marvellous, and must have made a nice human contrast to the abundance of horse flesh paraded. – Yours, etc,
