Sir, - The Cable Communications Association of Ireland has been campaigning for Deflector T.V. systems to be stopped. Instead they should ensure that their members provide an adequate quality reception and respond to subscribers complaints. There have been numerous complaints of poor TV reception in CMI's cable system in Greystones. Some customers have had to buy a satellite dish instead. The company has refused to provide subscribers with a list of channels that can be received and has a poor record of responding to complaints. Consumers should be informed of the service that they would get when they pay their fee.
The Town Commission has twice asked CMI to meet and explain their position but CMI have refused unlike other providers of monopoly services. The Dept. of Communications has not responded to complaints and does not appear to have a system of monitoring cable T.V. licences. The Town Commission is now calling on the Minister for Communications to cancel this licence because of poor service. - Yours, etc.
