A Chara, - It is with great amusement and not a little concern that I read Desmond E. Campbell's letter (July 21st). It is one thing to be a selfish motorist, and quite another to advertise oneself in the national press as such.

As a student, and therefore not having access to my own private pollutant, I am often forced to submit to the inadequacies of the public transport system. With the exception of those who live along the DART line, Dublin commuters who rely on public transport are forced daily to sit in traffic jams caused by people such as Mr Campbell who travel one person to a car. Dedicated bus lanes mean that more people can get to their destination in a shorter length of time - surely a vast improvement on the current situation.

If the "already harrassed private motorist" were to think of someone other than himself for once, perhaps Dublin's traffic problem might be on its way to some sort of resolution, and its residents to better health. - Is mise, Caroline Doorley,
