Purchase Of Farmleigh

Sir, - The purchase of Farmleigh hardly raised a ripple of protest in your columns

Sir, - The purchase of Farmleigh hardly raised a ripple of protest in your columns. Your editorial (June 22nd) has judged the mood of your readership perfectly.

The decision, shameful and utterly without social conscience, has caused not a stir. The members of Cabinet saw no problem, as they tripped over kids sleeping rough in the streets, in splurging £23 million so that visiting dignitaries could sleep in splendour and the Celtic tiger would not be embarrassed.

That the Sweetie-ites were involved is unsurprising - at least they are running true to form, and they too, have judged the mood perfectly. That the PDs were involved is, alas, no longer surprising. Watchdogs? Come off it! Their reversion is complete. Dom P for all. - Yours, etc., Liam J. McMullin,
