Madam, – Is there not something ironic about the sight of self-declared “peace activists” hailing eggs, shoes and bottles at an individual? – Yours, etc,

TOM WARD,

Monastery Road,

Dublin 22.

Madam, – On Saturday last I arrived in Dublin by train, intending to travel to the city centre on the Luas. I was appalled to discover that this vital element of the public transport system of our capital city was closed down to facilitate Tony Blair’s book signing.

This event was a commercial venture and as such should not have been allowed to impact on public transport in this way. If security for the event could not have been handled without shutting the Luas down, the event should not have been allowed to take place.

I’m sure I shouldn’t be surprised that once again in this country private interests were put ahead of public need, but I am astonished at how blatantly transparent it was on this occasion. – Yours, etc,

MARGARET CAHILL,

Castletroy,

Co Limerick.
