Sir, - Mrs Maire GeogheganQuinn retired from National politics in order to protect her privacy and that of her family from the unwelcome intrusion of the media. Was it not, therefore, inconsiderate of the Taoiseach to press her to accept his nomination of her to the Court of Auditors of the EU, thereby exposing her to far wider publicity?
I feel certain that Mrs Geoghegan-Quinn, in accepting the nomination, perhaps reluctantly, has put the national interest before her desire for privacy. I'm sure the very high rate of remuneration for the job in no way influenced her decision. - Yours, etc.,
Hubert J. Duffy, College Row, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
