Madam, – Reading that 22 hospital consultants have been warned that they were treating too many private patients in public hospitals (Front page, October 27th), three things occurred to me: 1. The proportion of new contract holders exceeding the specified limit – 22 of approximately 1,530 – appears surprisingly small and doesn’t support the assertion that the limit “was being ignored extensively across the board”. 2. “99 per cent of hospital consultants comply with the terms of their contracts” would not be a sufficiently sexy headline. 3. It was a slow day for news. – Yours, etc,
