Sir, – Your Editorial ("Political donations: Amnesty's defiance", December 16th) is unfortunately in error as regards the purpose of a grant made by the Open Society Foundations to Amnesty International Ireland for its "My Body My Rights Ireland" campaign.
We are aware that in a news release on December 13th, the Standards in Public Office Commission stated that it sought and received written confirmation from “a foreign donor” that funding for certain Irish organisations was for “explicitly political purposes.”
However, the Open Society Foundations has provided no such confirmation to Sipo, and we have written to the regulator requesting that they correct any public statements to the contrary. – Yours, etc,
