Sir, – I was intrigued to hear AIB chief executive David Duffy say on the news that there would be no rowing back on the new bank charges for customers who don’t have a €2,500 credit balance in the their accounts.
He says the bank has to build up its reserves so as to try and pay back the €20 billion it received from the Government; ie the taxpayer.
That’s a bit rich! He wants the taxpayer to pay back the money we gave it in the first place. That’s like borrowing €50 from a friend and asking him for another €50 the following week in order to pay him back. – Yours, etc,
