Sir, - RTE is currently giving prime airtime to the Army, Navy and Air Corps who are promoting their case for joining PfP. That the Irish military should be given this opportunity to promote what after all is in the military's vested interest is extraordinary. That the Army should effectively be lobbying the Irish public on an issue as important as PfP is surely in conflict with its role in society.
Would it not be more appropriate for the Army to lobby (if it must lobby) for increased resources for peacekeeping within the UN, where America owes $1 billion even while the US congress approves $13 billion for NATO spending in the Balkan crisis. - Yours, etc., Helen Delaney,
Cremorgan, Timahoe, Laois
