Sir, - The President's decision not to run for a second term while wholly understandable from the point of view of her career, is a sorry one for Ireland. Mrs. Robinson is probably the finest representative our country has ever had. While much of the benefit that has accrued to Ireland as a result of her presidency can never be measured, it is surely immense.
This is a sad day for Ireland, and for Irish people around the world. - Yours, etc,
