Nurses' Pay Claim

Sir, - So, the unthinkable has happened: those who care for us, our families, our friends, and our neighbours have been forced to take strike action in order to secure for themselves something approaching a decent wage. A previous Fianna Fail/Labour Coalition Government rewarded those who had plundered and cheated this State of upwards of £1 billion in unpaid taxes with an amnesty, and the present Government refuses to concede a most reasonable pay increase to our nurses - who, apart from the fact that they have almost universal support from the public who pay their wages, are tax compliant.

Forcing our nurses to take this action which runs counter to everything they hold sacred make this Government unfit for office. - Yours, etc.
