Sir, – I wonder if the 19th-century headmaster (“Department inquiry into exclusion of pregnant girl”, Home News, May 1st) has realised that what he is actually promoting by his attitude is either the competent use of contraception, or abortion.
I have been a doctor in “women’s medicine” for 27 years and can tell him the horse has bolted on teenage sexual activity.
It is probable there are girls in his school whose contraceptive use was more effective; and possible one or more has travelled to the UK one weekend, doing her homework on the plane, in order to keep her school place. – Yours, etc,
