Sir, - Further to Michael Dervan's review of Nigel Kennedy's performance of Elgar's Violin Concerto (May 23rd) I think that the main hall of the RDS is totally unsuitable acoustically for the performance of classical music.

May I make a suggestion to RTE and the Bank of Ireland for the future? Why not use the National Concert Hall for the Proms, and provide a promenade area by removing all the stall seats?

At one stroke you would have good acoustics, beautiful surroundings, no problem with the house lights and above all, no amplification!

In other words, great works of music with fine artists would be given the conditions they deserve. Yours, etc.,
