Sir, - I wish to draw your attention to the article by Kevin Myers in which he refers to the state of Catholic church music. I am pleased to respond by informing you of a new initiative launched on Sunday, October 20th, in Corpus Christi Church, Drumcondra. A new choir called Poiyphonia, comprised of six professional singers, sang for the first time at the 11 am Mass. They sang traditional hymns and Palestrina's Missa de Beata Virgine.

On November 24th the choir will sing Byrd's Five Part Mass in St. Agnes' Church, Crumlin at the 11 am Mass and, hopefully, on a monthly basis thereafter at different churches. We hope that Polyphonia will go some way towards redressing Mr Myers's concerns and those of all others who love our musical heritage. Who knows, it may mark the turn of the tide! - Yours, etc.,

Corpus Christi,

Drumcondra,
