Sir, - Kevin Myers would do well to read Danny Morrison's book Then the Walls Came Down (not "Tumbling Down") before using it as a launching platform for intemperate attacks on RTE, Irish public opinion and the author himself (An Irishman's Diary, May 11th).

The book was praised at the time of publication by a wide variety of reviewers and commentators, including Billy Hutchinson, Brian Keenan, Eoghan Harris, Maurice Hayes and Mary Holland, all of whom noted its humanity, thoughtfulness and tolerance.

Danny Morrison spent five years in prison; there he had time to think, and the opinions he expresses in the book are reasoned and, I believe, valuable. I would not have published the book had I not been convinced of this. - Yours, etc.,
