Sir, – I refer to the report by your correspondent Genevieve Carbery on the All-Ireland final of the national mock trials (Home News, May 7th), which took place in Dublin last weekend.

The winning student team managed to have a fictional clergywoman convicted of drink-driving. The sentence handed down by Mr Justice Peter Kelly banned the reverend lady from giving sermons.

I believe this is the first time a woman priest has been “silenced” in Ireland.– Yours, etc,
