Madam, – There is general agreement among your correspondents that expansion of the medical consultant workforce is the preferred solution to the medical staffing crisis in Ireland’s public hospitals.

This might prove prohibitively expensive given that the salaries needing to be paid are among the highest in the world (more than twice the amount paid to equivalents in the UK for example – and that for a shorter working week and with infinitely more private practice!). – Yours, etc,
