Sir, - I am very grateful to Dr Andreosso-O'Callaghan (December 31st) for the mathematical proof that the correct date of the end of the second millennium AD is December 31st, 2000. I had originally considered celebrating on November 29th, 1999, it being the second-last day of the second-last month of the second-last year of this millennium.

With the mass excitement over, perhaps, individually, we can use these 12 months of Y2K to quietly evaluate our lives, deal with the past and begin to make considered changes regarding the important things in life for the future. Then there will be even more to celebrate 12 months from now. - Yours, etc.,
