Sir, - I was interested to read Eavan Boland's article on literature and the Internet (Opinion, August 24th). She also referred to "the first creative writing course taught in an Irish university, in Trinity College Dublin", continuing: "I have no doubt that UCD will follow soon."

The Adult Office in UCD has been offering creative writing courses since 1990, and continues to do so. In October 1997, as part of the DeLLTTi Project (Delivering Lifelong Learning Through Telematics), we offered an on-line poetry workshop, "Commerce with the Muse", which we shall be running again this September. The poetry workshop is one of a range of on-line courses which we offer, covering subjects such as modern Irish writing, computing and genealogy.

I should also add that I agree entirely with Eavan Boland's comments about the opportunities for widening access and participation which the Internet provides. Yours, etc., Ashley Gaskin,

Adult Education Office,
