Sir, - While I take considerable satisfaction in the fact that contempt such as Mr Lawlor's for the courts and a lawfully established tribunal met with the appropriate punishment, I find no satisfaction in the activity you reported whereby "journalists, cameramen and photographers . . . studied every possible exit in preparation for yesterday's release". I would describe it as contemptuous activity, punishment for which would give me great satisfaction. I cannot imagine any possible outcome it might have had that would be of real interest to an Irish Times reader.

Clearly, it was an activity to which you assigned your own staff. Did you have nothing better for them to do? - Yours, etc.,
