Madam, – Vincent Browne’s column (Opinion, October 6th) brings into sharp focus how out of depth the current collection of Dáil misfits are. We have allowed local parochial matters to influence the choice of the majority of incumbents who now sit slack- jawed and open-mouthed as the pace of events quickens.

The empty seats in the Dáil, during what should be some of the most important debates in the history of the State, are symbolic of the fact that the representatives currently elected to the House are not sufficiently skilled in the matters at hand.

Thus we are left to the small group whose original actions have landed us in this mess. Einstein once said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” It seems this current Government is determined to try and prove Einstein wrong and at our expense. – Yours, etc,
