Madam, – Heartiest congratulations to you and your staff on reaching such a significant milestone in the history of the paper. I greatly enjoyed reading the commemorative first edition.
One advertisement in particular caught my eye. The “Great Bankrupt Sale” was described as having a price list that was “a challenge to the world”. Prospective buyers were asked to observe the sale address: “No 92, Grafton Street, Dublin (Opposite Brown and Thomas’s)”. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Congratulations on the paper’s 150th anniversary and on presenting a copy of the first issue.
I have been an avid reader of the paper for over 60 years, during which time I have enjoyed the accurate and incisive covering of a myriad of difficult topics. Now as an OAP I look forward each day to having a go at the Simplex and Crosaire crosswords.
There are, however, two changes I would like to see. The original handwritten typescript of The Irish Times would retain a connection with the past, and the transfer of the size of the paper to tabloid, would make it more convenient to handle, and quite de rigueur. – Yours, etc,
