Sir, - In his interview in your edition of September 1st, Premier Zhu Rongji predictably said that "matters concerning Tibet are purely China's internal affairs". It is heartening, therefore, to learn that Tibetan NGOs have finally been accredited at the current UN Conference on Racism in Durban, despite vigorous Chinese opposition.

I hope our Government spokepersons will also refuse to kowtow to the Chinese "internal affairs" line when they discuss human rights with Premier Zhu. - Yours, etc.,
