Madam, – In relation to the proposed property tax being discussed by the Government, I am most concerned that a flat rate of tax will be initially charged. I, as a rural dweller, do not have access to footpaths, street lighting, parks, buses or many of the other infrastructural benefits of city living, yet I will be expected to pay a similar rate to those who have such benefits.
In line with the current directive that dentists should provide an itemised price list, perhaps the local councils will provide us with a breakdown of the proposed flat rate tax so we can eliminate the services that we do not receive and pay accordingly. As rural dwellers, we pay for our own water and waste water services and pay our road tax, so the local council provides us with almost nothing. – Yours, etc,
