Sir, - Amid all of the waffle which has been spoken, north and south of the border, one man shines out as a beacon of clarity and good sense, always willing to confront difficult situations straight on. I refer to Seamus Mallon who in past days, as ever, has called every spade a spade, not least the "Provo speak" and IRA links of Sinn Fein and the failures of the UUP.
That man, for his sustained trojan work, through tiredness and illness, deserves whatever honours may emerge from this bedevilled peace process. - Yours, etc., Frank Malin
