Sir, – Would it not be a good idea if every Irish citizen who returned home on holidays for The Gathering next year was given a postal vote for the following five years?

He or she would then have some say, come election time, as to the direction that Ireland might take in the years ahead. And before someone trots out the old chestnut about no representation without taxation, I would point that thousands of recent emigrants are now net contributors to the Irish economy by way of the remittances sent home for mortgages in banks owned by the Irish State. – Yours, etc,
