Madam, – We hear and read every day such negativity towards the HSE that I would like to share my family’s recent experience as service users. Last Wednesday, my brother’s two-year-old son was unwell; his Mum brought him to their GP, who immediately referred him to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
Following tests there he was transferred that same evening to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. At 9.30pm on Wednesday night, we received the devastating news that he had leukaemia. However, due to the prompt actions of his parents, GP, staff at Our Lady’s in Drogheda, and Our Lady’s in Crumlin, he is now receiving radical chemotherapy and is in there with a fighting chance.
Our family cannot be the only ones to have received this kind of prompt action as service users, so perhaps it’s time, in this era of huge media negativity, to heap a little praise and grateful thanks to the staff and the huge organisation that is the HSE. Yours, etc,
Madam, – I have to report good news. I was recently in Cappagh Hospital for a hip replacement and have to say that the treatment, food and facilities were second to none. After five days I was transferred to Clontarf for convalescence and physio. Once again, the staff, the food, the hygiene, as in Cappagh, were of an extremely high standard.
I just had to record how wonderful the experience was. Three weeks after the operation I was walking well with the aid of two sticks which, considering I am 88, is quite remarkable. My thanks to all concerned. – Yours, etc,
