Sir, - I hear on the morning radio that Mr Donnelly of the IFA is yet again requesting handouts for the farming community because their income is down 10 per cent, and also stressing how important the farmers input into the economy is.
Perhaps if the same farmers stopped over fertilising the land and, as a result, stopped polluting our rivers and lakes they might recoup some or all of this 10 per cent. This might also make this country far more attractive to tourists, who also have an important input into the economy. - Yours, etc.
