Sir, - At this time in its development Dublin needs a really imaginative millennium project. May I respectfully suggest the renovation of the old windmill in the grounds of the Guinness Brewery? This would be a truly wondrous addition to the city's skyline. The views west along the Liffey from the city centre would be greatly enhanced. In fact, the combination of the renovated windmill and the Halfpenny Bridge could quickly become the city's new photographic trademark, while the windmill, in its own right, could become a valuable new tourist attraction drawing people west along the Liffey quays.

Funding for the project could be a joint millennium collaboration between the National Lottery, Guinness, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Dublin Corporation. Dublin (and Ireland) would get a definitive new symbol, while Guinness could use the windmill in many new marketing campaigns.
