Madam, - I refer to a letter from Ciarán Hayden in Friday's edition in which he erroneously took issue with my statement earlier in the week that a majority of voters in Greystones had voted for candidates who were opposed to the proposed marina development.
The facts are as follows: minister for the environment Dick Roche did not declare his position on the project and polled 23 per cent of first preference votes in Greystones. Of the remaining 77 per cent, the first preferences cast for candidates against the development were:
Evelyn Cawley: 14.3 per cent;
Liz McManus: 13.9 per cent;
Deirdre de Búrca: 10.0 per cent;
John Brady: 3.9 per cent;
Donal Ó Síocháin: 2.0 per cent;
Nicky Kelly: 1.4 per cent;
Carmel McKenna: 0.8 per cent;
Total: 46.3 per cent.
This represents over 60 per cent of the first preference votes cast for candidates who declared their position on the project.
Is this just another example of the proponents of this project not letting the facts interfere with a good story? - Yours, etc,
EVELYN CAWLEY, Upr Kindlestown, Delgany, Co Wicklow.
