Madam, – Before George Lee is canonised for the risk he is taking leaving a “permanent pensionable job” in RTÉ to run for election (May 8th), could the record be set straight? In typical semi-state/public sector style Mr Lee has been allowed take a leave of absence to pursue election. If he fails he can return to employment in RTÉ funded by the taxpayers through the TV licence etc. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – George Lee’s style of commentary on economic matters, combined with his move to celebrity status in recent months, has meant that more often than not his opinion became the news story – rather than the economic facts he was reporting on.
So perhaps it is timely that Mr Lee has moved into politics and hopefully we can look forward to RTÉ’s economic reporting getting back to basics, like the rest of us in the country. – Yours, etc,
