Madam, - An article in the Artscape column of August 2nd stated that Wexford Festival Opera received "an increase of almost 17 per cent" in its funding from the Arts Council for 2009.
This is regrettably not the case: Wexford Festival Opera in fact received a zero per cent increase in Arts Council funding, like the majority of other regularly funded organisations. It was offered a grant of €1,389,100, the same figure offered for 2008, a decrease in real terms when inflation is taken into account. - Yours, etc,
