A chara, - I am battling against a global perception, that by virtue of my Irish origins, I must be lazy, unwashed, unsophisticated, unstylish, repressed, oppressed, religiously challenged, stoically inclined towards drink, and great for a yarn.

Having read two articles in your paper recently, "Frosty Failte" (January 23rd) and Michael O'Loughlin's article on the 26th, I now realise that I have even more problems: how to morally make and spend my money, and how to keep up with the thinking of other "more advanced" countries. I shall ponder on these issues, whilst undergoing my acupuncture sessions in Barbados over the next fortnight. - Is mise, Gertrude Sampson,
