Sir, - I find it incredible that The Irish Times would allow the publication of a letter "Pesticides on fish farms" (May 15th) which in the space of five paragraphs succeeds in libelling a £50 million industry, spreading malicious and unfounded lies about the environment around salmon farms, completely misrepresents the facts surrounding medications in aquaculture and seems to have no other purpose than to frighten the general public through scare mongering and untruths.
Then again, while you may defend the right of any London based dentist to pour forth on an industry and its people what he plainly knows nothing about, it is far more serious when your own correspondent "Y", makes uninformed allegations in the same vein with the same effect (May 12th).
I trust that the famous Irish Times reputation for balance and fairness will not be overlooked in future when dealing with Ireland's important aquaculture industry. - Yours, etc.,
Executive Secretary,
IFA Fish Farming Section, Bluebell,
