Fifty names for Irish rain

Sir, – 98. “The rain here is absolute, magnificent, and frightening,” observed Heinrich Böll in his Irish Journal (1957). – Yours, etc,

PAT McMAHON,

Kylemore Park,

Lower Salthill, Galway.

A chara, – 99. A family I know cut short their Irish camping holiday because there was “rain between the cloudbursts”. Would this be “rain with intent?”. – Is mise,

BREDA BREATHNACH,

Avondale Road, Co Dublin.

A chara, – 100. I write to complain about these letters regarding 50 names for Irish rain. We have had other letters over many weeks covering various “100 names” for something or other. We have names for a bridge.

I can stand – just about – the political comments from various opinion makers and editorials, but enough is enough – otherwise I will have to go back and buy the SUN! – Yours, etc,

PAUL DORAN,

Monastery Walk,

Clondalkin,

Dublin 22.
