Sir, - A spokeswoman for Dublin Corporation explains that it will not allow a genuine car-free day because it would interfere with its policy of encouraging shoppers to use city-centre car-parks on Saturdays (The Irish Times, August 16th).
In other words, no car-free day because it would interfere with the policy of encouraging car use. Now that's "Irish". - Yours etc.,
