Sir, - In your report about the standard of written English in last year's Leaving Cert (August 9th) you quote the following sentences from the Department of Education's report: "Their (i.e. many students) writing is frequently illogical, muddled and at times incomprehensible. Yet they appear to think they are making sense.
"Physician, heal thyself," say I, since it surely defies logic and comprehension to imply that good students would knowingly write nonsense. Yours, etc.,
