Sir, - It is now openly suggested that the United Kingdom might leave the EU.
Should this happen, presumably the English language will cease to be an official EU language, because all other member States have their own tongues.
Or will Ireland insist on the retention of English, on the grounds that although we are only about 1 per cent of the EU population, English is our (first?) national language? - Yours, etc.,
