Sir, – It is refreshing to read Brian Motherway’s piece (Opinion, August 25th) regarding the need for increased public involvement in addressing Ireland’s energy issues.
As a resident of north Leitrim, the site of a proposed hydraulic fracturing project, I feel that the need to address Ireland’s energy consumption and renewable energy resources is most urgent.
With potentially flammable tap water, evident in some US “fracked” areas, and the mass industrialisation of a stunning, rural area resulting from the “fracking” process, it brings fresh meaning to the cry of “To hell or to Connaught!”.
In a post-fracking Leitrim will anyone be able to tell the difference? – Yours, etc,
