Sir, - I am concerned about the application for planning permission for a major shopping centre development on the Pye lands in Dundrum, Dublin 16.
An Bord Pleanala rejected the initial application in October 1999, mainly because of "the monolith character and mass of the development would be out of character with the existing pattern of development in the area."
The latest plan has some modifications but is similar in scale and such is its size that it includes 2,992 car spaces. The planned improvement in road and rail transport infrastructure for Dundrum would be more than cancelled out by a development of this size.
I suspect the vast majority of local residents are unaware of this latest proposal as the planning notice is located on the access road adjacent to Ridgeford apartments which is not very well frequented by pedestrians. - Yours, etc.,
Bill Kedroff, Churchtown, Dublin 14.
