Dublin's Third World

Sir, - Charity begins at home

Sir, - Charity begins at home. Johnny Andrews (December 9th) wrote honestly about how nauseating it is for Dublin's homeless to hear talk of cancelling Third World debt. When will the people of Ireland wake up to the fact that we have our own "Third World" - the homeless, the poor, the children in cold, damp houses with empty bellies and hacking coughs. Maybe, instead of collecting money for Trocaire during the coming Lenten period, we should ensure that the future population of Ireland will be in a better position to help other countries by collecting for charities such as the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Simon Community. - Yours, etc., Grania O'Connell,
